Spa breaks are extremely popular with Europeans - particularly in those countries in the eastern part of Europe where whole towns and villages devote themselves to providing visitors with the authentic European spa experience.

The word spa is derived from the name of a town in Belgim, where illness has been treated since the middle ages by encouraging visitors and citizens alike to dring local natural spring water called chalybeate. This local water is naturally high in iron content and has been famed for centuries for its therapeutic properties.
