Falkirk is situated at the junction of the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal, a location which proved pivotal to the growth of Falkirk as a centre of heavy industry during the Industrial Revolution Attractions in and around Falkirk include the award winning Falkirk Wheel, remnants of the roman Antonine wall, and historic Callendar House Falkirk has featured in many of the important events of Scottish history with both Braveheart William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie leading armies which fought major battles near the town. Falkirk also marks the most northerly part ever reached by the Roman Empire and a wall was constructed there to keep out the pictish hordes to the north.
